A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Nicole Plourde, Louise Valliere, Kenneth Proulx, Bryan Lamirande, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Amy Huter, Dan Record, Gary Bisson, Georgia Caron, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the April 5, 2012 and April 19, 2012 meetings, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, April 05, and April 19, 2012 for the amounts of $2,330.52 and $242,682.46 On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS None
1st RDG I POLICIES On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the first reading of Policies IHAM – Health Education & Exemption from Instruction, IHAMA – Teaching About Alcohol, Drugs & Tobacce, IHAMB – Teaching About Self-Protection, IMAH – Daily Physical Activity as amended. The motion passed unanimously.
NH ACADEMY On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the District’s participation in the NH Academy of Pacesetting Districts. The motion passed unanimously.
BJHS SCHEDULE Discussion ensued regarding the present “Team Model” at the Berlin Junior High School and how the present budget was developed and where savings were accrued. The Superintendent also inquired how the Board felt on the issue of the maintenance that will be required on the Marston School Building.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board on the following issues;
- NECAP- Science
- AFLAC car will be on display at BHS
- Acceptable Yearly Progress
- Response –to- Intervention
- School Board member replacement
COMMENTS None
NEW BUSINESS Nicole Plourde inquired whether PBIS would be implemented at the elementary and middle school levels. Amy Huter discussed responsive classroom as more appropriate at the younger level. Dan Record informed the Board that Berlin Middle School will be exploring PBIS.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:06 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:26 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
NON UNION On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the non-union salary scheduled as presented by the Administration. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
RENOMINATIONS On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the renomination of the Director positions. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
ADJOURN On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:29 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
